Pitch Reparation's Underway
May 13th 2021
The pitch reparation is well underway at the club, overseen by Head Groundsman Bob Hayton. The first day saw the pitches vertidrained, with the slightly inclement weather actually proving beneficial. By day two, the team were hard at work with the topdressing, before closing out day three with drag matting & drill seeding.
As you may know, the bulk of our ground maintenance is done by volunteers, which we have a committed group that attend most Friday mornings to work either on the pitches, or has been the case during Covid, to do other work around the facility. Most noticeably the undergrowth around the Training Pitch.
We are looking for further volunteers for mowing. The club will need to keep on top of the cutting of the pitches, and a change of work circumstances for two of our volunteers has meant they don’t quite have the same flexibility they had previously. Currently the bulk of the grass cutting has been done on a volunteer basis by Carol Mckenzie for which the club is extremely grateful. However, we need to look to spread the workload so we are looking for volunteers prepared to spend an hour or so a week to help out. With longer hours of daylight it is quite a pleasant way to spend a sunny evening, and once the Covid restrictions lift and if there’s cricket on, enjoy a drink afterwards.
Anyone interested should please contact Bob Hayton via the Contacts page. Full instruction on the operation of the mower will of course be given.
